Homeopathy assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself.
We all have an innate natural healing force which sends healing energy to where it is needed in the body to restore health and wellbeing. Homeopathic remedies stimulate this healing energy or vital force (or qi, chi or prana) to relieve acute and chronic illness.
Homeopathy considers all symptoms whether mental, physical and emotional, so that an individualised homeopathic remedy is found and then taken to gently and effectively relieve ill health and to feel energised and well.
Like cures like
Homeopathy restores the sick to health by means of the application of the ‘law of similars’ or ‘like cures like’ introduced to the world by the German Doctor Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) in 1796. He became dissatisfied by the medical practices of the time whilst studying the toxic effects of substances on health and deduced that smaller amounts of a substance could heal where larger amounts would cause ill health.
The idea that ‘like cures like’ originated with the physicians Hippocrates 460-377BC and Paracelcus 1493-1541.
It states that a disease can be cured by a weaker substance which produces similar symptoms in a healthy person, for example if chopping an onion produces tears and a runny nose in a healthy person then a homeopathic remedy made from onion may help a person with similar symptoms if they have a cold or hay fever.
Homeopathy restores health by using potentised remedies to provide a stimulus to the natural healing mechanisms within us all and enabling the body to heal itself. A Homeopath selects the most appropriate remedy based on the individuals’ symptoms and personal level of health.
Homeopathy ‘treats’ a wide variety of symptoms in any situation where a person’s health is depleted from minor symptoms like bruises and cuts, to ‘acute’ symptoms like coughs and earache, recovery from surgery, to long term problems such as skin complaints to depression or hormonal conditions.
Treating the whole person
Homeopathy treats the whole person as a unique individual and treats the person not disease labels.
Homeopathy looks at the individual persons responses to situations.
Homeopathy is different to conventional medicine as it looks at the whole person and not just the symptoms.
Homeopathy believes that symptoms are experienced because of an inner disturbance in the vital force. These symptoms are seen as ‘signs’ by a homeopath and point to selecting a remedy for a person by matching the symptoms to a remedy picture. Hahnemann said there are no diseases as such but only diseased individuals.
Homeopathy sets in motion a process of healing that can continue for days, weeks, and months, by restoring balance and health back to the person.
Homeopathy seeks to bring about genuine deep healing from disease to health and harmony.
After taking a remedy people find they have more energy, feel better and happier in themselves.
Homeopathy is concerned with maintaining good health and aiding recovery from ill health and sees prevention as better than cure. It nudges the immune system and mental and emotional states into responsiveness so that the body is resistant to disease or disease is prevented from recurring.
Homeopathy looks to minimalise inherited disease tendencies.
Homeopathy provides an alternative to conventional medicine and is the second largest used medicine in the world today as recognised by the World Health Organisation – (WHO). Over 200 million people use it worldwide.
Homeopathy is considered complementary because it can work alongside medical treatment.
